Identifying DISC Styles in 30 Seconds or Less

What if I said you can, with 80% accuracy, determine someone’s core behavioral style in 30 seconds or less?

How might that affect your communication effectiveness with others?

The great news is you can – with very little effort.

Identifying someone’s style accurately is just the beginning, however. To be truly effective, you’ll need to practice, make adjustments, and hone the skill of behavioral-style recognition.

Let’s see how quick and easy it is to accurately identify someone’s core behavioral style.

The two-step process:

    1. Identify a person with whom you wish to interact more effectively.
    2. Keeping this person in mind, ask yourself if this person is more:
      • Extroverted or Introverted? (pick one)
      • Task- or People- focused (pick one)

Based on your combined answers, check the grid below to determine (with 80% accuracy) their core behavioral style.

Note that most people have a combination of two or three predominant styles, and it’s important to consider nuances. This quick guide is meant to give you a starting point for improving your communication skills, while first considering the other person’s style and preferences.

If you haven’t already done so, consider taking a deeper dive into each unique style. You might also want to learn how to flex your style to be more effective with others.

The more you actively observe others’ behaviors and emotions, the more effectively and accurately you’ll identify their unique combination of styles.
